The winemaking style is one of little intervention. Very little new oak is used to allow the fruit and varietal characteristics of the wines to shine through. The Pinot Noir is a clean, bright wine that pairs well with a wide variety of foods.

2015 Edmond Cornu Ladoix “Vieille Vigne” $50

The village of Ladoix borders on the Cote de Nuits and brings the black fruits of that region into a marriage with the red fruits of the Cote de Beaune to make a wonderfully complex and satisfying wine. The vineyards lie at the foot of the hillside of Corton. The vines are quite old, one part of the vineyard having been planted in 1926 and another part being planted in 1960. The Ladoix “Vieilles Vignes” is aged in small oak for eighteen months with about 10% of the oak being new.

2017 Domaine Daniel Rion Bourgogne Pinot Noir $35

Aromtic pure red cherry essence, spices, and earth notes lead off on the nose, followed on the palate by fresh, succulent red fruits, modest tannins, and perfect acidity. Balanced and elegant with no lack of Burgundian nuance and soul, this is a wine to drink now and over the next 4-5 years while and enjoy a near perfect expression for the 2017 vintage

2017 Domaine Rollin Pernand-Vergelesses $50

This wine is a standard bearer for the Rollin domaine, making a statement about the charm and tenacity of the best wines of this region. The grapes are sourced from several plots, the two most important of which are in the “Les Pins”(on the northern side of the village) and “Les Noirets” (on the southern side of the village) vineyards. Most of the vines are old and the resulting wine has significant backbone but, like the truest wines of Pernand, the color is more often ruby-garnet rather than a deep red.

2017 Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Bourgogne $35

2017 Domaine du Mieux Foulot Mercurey $40

This cuvee is made from 10 different plots scattered throughout the Mercurey appellation. The grapes are destemmed and extraction during fermentation is gentler than how she treats her premier cru wines in order to render a wine that is a bit softer and easier to drink.  After a two to three-week fermentation in concrete tanks, the wine is aged partially in stainless steel (60%) and older barrels (40%) for about 15 months before being assembled and bottled.  Gentle and fruity, this wine  leans more toward pure pinot noir fruit with only a touch of the dark and tannic undertones that commonly mark Mercurey.

2018 Jean Marc Pillot Bourgogne “Les Grande Terres” $35

This little red is a favorite of ours for its rustic, wild berry fruit and ebullient palate presence. The vineyard is located south of Chassagne in the town of Remigny. Some of the vines are quite old, approaching the 60-year mark (as of 2012).

2017 Domaine Collotte Marsannay “Vieille Vignes” $29

2015 Domaine Prudhon Aloxe-Corton 1’er Cru “Les Rouges Georges” $40

This wine is produced from two separate parcels: one on a hillside above the hamlet of Gamay and the other from a parcel between Saint Aubin and Chassagne Montrachet. The average age of the vines is 50 years (as of 2011). A classic wine of this sector with compelling notes of animal and wild berries. The elevage is about 18 months before bottling; again, very little new oak is used.
